Earlier this month, we invited Jason Moran, one of the greatest interpreters of Thelonious Monk’s music, to play MIM’s newly acquired Pannonica Piano during his concert at the MIM Music Theater. Owned by Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter, a noted jazz patron in the 1950s, the Steinway piano is most closely associated with Monk, who selected this piano new in the Steinway showroom and later played and composed on it.
